Owen’s foray into audio production was at the age of 16, working in live sound at all-age events. Live sound took him to larger venues across Sydney and interstate, and after undertaking live recordings of many of the shows, it sparked an interest in studio work. One master’s degree later, he cut his teeth in the studio working under the mentorship of Lachlan Mitchell (The Vines, The Jezabels, Something With Numbers) at Jungle Studios.
In 2014, Owen joined the Studios 301 family as an Assistant Engineer, and has since worked with international artists such as Coldplay, Will.I.Am, Stevie Nicks, Dizzy Reed and Richard Fortus (Guns N Roses), John Corabi (Motley Crue), Vic Mensa, as well as local talent Birds of Tokyo, Urthboy, Gang Of Youths, Middle Kids, The Jezabels, Jimmy Barnes, Daniel Johns, Briggs, Alpine, Ta-ku, Wafia, The Necks, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Boy & Bear. Owen’s experience spans across a diverse range of genres including indie, rock, folk, jazz, pop, hip hop and orchestral work.
In the studio, Owen likes to focus on microphone technique, and capturing the artist in the moment. His appreciation for live performance combined with a comprehensive technical approach, allows an artist to perform at their best, no matter what their needs may be.
