Stefan du Randt is one of the select few engineers who work exclusively from Studios 301 and has capitalised on that by building a reputation as a prolific producer, mixing and recording engineer.
His credits are highlighted by his work on Mac Millers‘ posthumous album “Circles“, and include many exciting Australian and international artists such as Vera Blue, Coldplay, Zedd, Katy Perry, Thelma Plum, Guy Sebastian, Elton John, Vallis Alps, Elliphant, Touch Sensitive, Paces, Asap Ferg, YG, The Script, I Know Leopard, Delta Goodrem, Esoterik (Bliss and Eso), MXXWL, Matt Gresham, Conrad Sewell, Sayah, Jess Kent, Wolfmother, Peking Duk, Daniel Johns, Diesel, Clypso, Alta and many more.
As a mix engineer, Stefan’s approach is always to go above and beyond to get the best out of a record often adding additional production elements utilising an array of outboard gear. His mix credits include Boomchild, Polish Club, Bonnie Anderson, Voli K, Karise Eden, Dylan Wright, George, Ray Beadle, Chris Cody, Field of Wolves, The Hideaways, Blind Coyote, Kingston County, Taku & Wafia, Pirra, Yung Dready Mane, Honey Drip, Tales and more.
“The way I approach making records is always striving to work toward the biggest and most immersive picture possible and making every record the best it can be. I really like taking existing productions and adding live elements, production and mixing. Squeezing that extra 20% out of what someone thinks is a finished record and making it world-class.”
Most recently he channels his passion to work on new music and develop artists via his own independent label, Interface Records.
To add to his engineering and production work, Stefan is one of the lead facilitators and practical mentors for the 301 Academy where he takes up-coming engineers through the process of making a record, all the way from the demo stage through to the finished product.
Stefan has an easy-going approach in the studio and loves working with a diverse range of musicians, especially those aiming to push the boundaries within their genre to create something unique and exciting.
Stefan’s road to joining the Studios 301 team in 2015 included relocating from South Africa where he worked as principal engineer for Grammy-winning producer Darryl Torr (Soweto Gospel Choir).
His already established career in South Africa included working on albums by MTV and SAMA award-winning artists Die Antwoord, Spoek Mathambo, Zebra & Giraffe, Gangs of Ballet and Shortstraw, and owning and operating his own studio in Johannesburg where he honed his craft recording, mixing and producing countless indie artists. Stefan also holds a degree in music production from Berklee College of Music.
