Stefan joined the Studios 301 team in late 2015, relocating from South Africa where he worked as principal engineer for Grammy Award winning producer Darryl Torr (Soweto Gospel Choir) at Openroom Studios. He holds a degree in music production from Berklee College of Music, and since moving to Australia, has engineered for an expanding line-up of local bands including Polish Club, Pirra, Smitty & B. Goode, Taku & Wafia (Spotify Sessions), plus produced & engineered albums for Field of Wolves and Roland Kay Smith.
Stefan’s broad engineering experience includes working on albums by MTV and SAMA award winning bands Zebra & Giraffe, Gangs of Ballet and Shortstraw, alongside work as a broadcast engineer mixing large music festivals live-to-air, and music events for the likes of Ray Ban, Red Bull and Converse. In addition, Stefan owned and operated his own studio in Johannesburg.
In his short but eventful time in Sydney, Stefan has utilised his previous experience to transition quickly from assisting to leading sessions. Along the way he has assisted and worked with renowned international artists including Coldplay, Elliphant, Elton John, Wolfmother, classical pianist Ambre Hammond, and local indie favourites I Know Leopard, Peking Duk and more.
Stefan has an easy-going approach in the studio and loves working with a diverse range of musicians, especially those aiming to push the boundaries within their genre to create something unique and exciting.
