REAL RECORDING SESSIONS
The 301 Academy is a one-of-a-kind practical experience. Hosted by the 301 engineering team, this 3 month program provides a part-time hands-on education covering: pre-production, vocal production, track production, mixing, and mastering.
Entry Requirements:
- Music Production experience
- Proficiency in Pro Tools recommended (not essential)
Includes: 1x complimentary session in Studio 2 incl. access to equipment and a behind-the-scenes video package of the experience (valued at AU$1,000)

Overview – Producing a single for a pop rock band with knowledge and practical competency training along the way.
Session Schedule: 6 Feb. – 4 May 2024
Week 1.1 – Pre-production and Induction – Evening – 3 hours (6 Feb. 2024)
- Studios 301 Tour
- Round table – Introductions
- Introduction to studio etiquette, studio hierarchy & traditional in-studio roles
- Studio security & emergency procedures
- Pizza and beers
- Go through the Pre-production process
- Highlighting choosing the song, changes in song structure, tempo, instrumentation etc.
Week 1.2 – Practical – Cable Rolling and Basic Recording Chain – Evening – 2 hours (10 Feb. 2024)
- Show all the attendees how to roll mic cables properly
- Show them a basic recording chain: (using simple all in one interface like Arrow but drawing parallels to studio and talking about how it’s the same each component is now it’s own part – eg. Pro Tools Mix Window vs Neve Console, Pro Tools Edit Window vs Tape)
- Mic, Console (preamp, EQ, DYN, Sends vs Inserts, Trim, Fader Levels, Inline vs Split, A to D, Recording Medium, Rec Path vs Monitor Path) Introductory – feeds into next session
- Do a basic recording

- Knowledge – Signal Flow at 301 (Basic Patchbay), 301 Consoles, outboard & tape
